For urban youth, computers have become an inseparable part of life. In this Digital Age, knowledge of computers is quientessential. Without knowledge of computers, education is deemed incomplete. But for a tribal kid in a far off village, touching a computer is still a dream, let alone using it.

We the kalyan Ashram Youth Wing, Kolkata have taken up to fulfill their dream ! We will install 2 computers in each of Kalyan Ashram's 34 hostels Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand that have electricity. These computers will help these vanvasi  familiarize with basic softwares, functions and will give them a wider picture of the world around them !!! A computer will surely help them dream big !

We need your help be it cash or kind in full or part to fulfill this dream of the vanvasi children. We have zeroed in on the following basic configuration of desktop computers which we are planning to install. A higher configuration is most welcome. We are also accepting used parts in working condition.

Vanjeevan - 2010

Purvanchal Kalyan Ashram team is organising the much awaited ' Vanjeevan ' !!!!

The ' Vanjeevan ' is a summer camp for school going children at a Kalyan Ashram Chatravaas (hostel). Full of exciting activities, games and excursions to nearby vanvasi villages, it gives the urban children a rare opportunity to gain insight into the rich vanvasi culture and way of life. It gives them a chance to interact and spend time with the vanvasis and participate in their activities.

And what's more, this time it is being organised at Kalyan Ashram's hostel in the pristine town of Kalimpong,  ! An ideal getaway. This chatravaas, nestled among the beautiful forests of North Bengal is a golden retreat for nature lovers ! It will  give the children a chance to spend some quality time amidst nature and a much required break from the hectic urban life !

Trip details :

• Duration : 5D/6N. Dates - dep 31st may night and arrival 6th june morning ex Kolkata.
• Location : Kalimpong chatravaas, North Bengal.
• Transport : night train to & from Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri and then by road.
• Activities : Trekking, playing tribal instruments, archery, interaction with vanvasi children, and much much more.....
• Participants eligibility :  Only school going girls from classes 8 - 11
• Accompanied by : Senior, female Kalyan Ashram karyakartas and college going volunteers.
• Expenses : estimated Rs. 2500/- p.head. incl. of all expenses.ex - Howrah.

9th. Medical Camp report

9th Medical Camp: a Tribal welfare, tribal development camp.

Dates : 20&21st Feb, 2010.

Location : Tribal villages in and around Mallarpur, West Bengal.

Camp  details:

• 20-2-10 : Jethia pahari village - 410 vanvasi patients treated
• 21-2-10 : Kastogara village - 500 patients treated
• Team : 3 Doc., 2 Eye spec., 2 Med asst., 2 Yoga experts, 13 Karyakartas
• 2 IIT-K  Phd scholars for Water Harvesting initiatives.

Following services were provided to the vanvasis at no cost :-

• Medicines
• Basic health checkups
• Interaction with doctors
• Spectacles as per specification
• Basic Yoga training from specialist
• A 30ft x 30 ft Water reservoir to be constructed under the guidance of Kalyan Ashram volunteers and 2 IIT-K Phd scholars.

 

 

 Water Harvesting Project being started under the guidance of Kalyan Ashram team with inputs from 2 IIT-K Phd scholars. A 30ft X 30ft water reservoir will be constructed enabling the villagers to grow 2 crops in an year.  :

•  Free Health and eye check up, Medication, for the vanvasi
•  Health and Yoga instruction
• Water harvesting activity
• 800-1000 vanvasi patients will arrive
• Malaria, Fever, Stomach disorder, Eye problems etc. are common

 Itineary :

•  Departing from Howrah on 20th, Sat at 530 am
• Reach Mallarpur at 930 am and proceed to camp site in vanvasi areas
• Night halt at Kalyan Ashram Chattravaas
• 21st, Sun - Tarapith darshan at 4 am
• Camp throughout the day
• Board train for Howrah at 1700pm and reach Howrah at 2145pm
